There will not be a visitation. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at True Vine Baptist Church, 415 West Garland Ave, West Helena Arkansas. Interment will follow immediately at Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexa AR. Mother Mildred Ransom Hoover was born March 22, 1940 in Natchez, Mississippi to the late Mr. Henry J. and Mrs. Beatrice C. Ransom, Sr.

Mildred confessed a hope in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in September 1957 at Egypt Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Reverend David Woods. After moving to West Helena, Arkansas, she joined True Vine Baptist Church where she faithfully served on the Mother’s Board, Hospitality and Pastor’s Aid Committees.

She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Clyde W. Hoover in October 1985 until his death in 2004.

Growing up in Natchez, Mississippi, she graduated from Sadie V. Thompson High School.  She continued her education at Natchez College. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Early Childhood Education from Jackson State College and Delta State University, respectively.

Over the span of her career as an educator, Mildred was not just a teacher, but also a counselor and mother to many students which continued into her retirement.  She retired in 2002 after over 40 years of service. She began teaching in McComb, Mississippi, followed by two years in New Orleans, Louisiana. The majority of her career was in West Helena, Arkansas where she served for over 35 years. During her career she was recognized and appreciated by both parents, peers, and administrators. This included being awarded ‘Teacher of the Year’ multiple times.

Mildred spent her life enjoying many activities with both family and friends. Her involvement included both community and civic organizations.  She participated in summer school, vocational bible school, and annual youth day programs. She was a Golden Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, West Helena/Forest City, Arkansas Chapter.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother-in-law; Alvin Simon and a nephew; Kevin Simon.

Mildred leaves to cherish her memories her siblings; Edith Simon of New Orleans LA, Matiel Ransom of Houston TX, Henry (Cassie) Ransom, Jr. of Tyler TX, Dianne Ransom, Yvonne Ransom both of Irving TX, one sister-in-law; Evelyn Hoover, special nieces/nephews; Henry Ransom, III, Corey (Teresa) Ransom, Jonathan Ransom, Bryan (Sara) Ransom, Kimbra Ransom, Alexandra Ransom, Juwana Simon, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
