Sister Mary Barefield was born in Modoc, Arkansas August 23, 1919 to the late Callie Dixon Mitchell and Jim Holmes.

Early in life she professed hope in Jesus Christ and was baptized by Reverend Redmond. For many years she was a member and mother of Morning Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Prior to her present membership, she worshiped with Miracle Temple under the leadership of Elder James Hicks, Sr. Sister Barefield has been an active member of West Helena Seventh-Day Adventist Church for about 32 years.

Sister Barefield had many attributes. She had a bubbly smile, multitalented, loved to cook, sew, can and freeze a variety of foods. She was known as a sitter; worked at the hospital, nursing home and private homes. She was most proud to have been employed by Charlie Moore and Dr. Ruben L. Chresman families.

Sister Mary was married to Willie Barefield for 42 years. To this union no children were born. They were inducted into the masonic families; Brother Willie was a Mason and Sister Mary was an Eastern Star.

July 19, 2019, Sister Barefield was escorted by her earthly visiting angel to join her parents, husband; Willie, five brothers; Arthur Adams, Ben, Lonnie, Arthur and Jim Harris, seven sisters; Ora, Eliza Jane, Gertrude, Otis, Marie, Estella and Louise.

Sister Barefield leaves to cherish her memories one half-sister; Ceola Edmond of Joliet IL, nephews and nieces of sister Ora Mack all live in California, children of brother Jim Harris; Mary Harris – Campbell of Little Rock AR, Wilma (Alfred) Harris – Horton of North Little Rock AR, many cousins with the last name “Dixon” and a host of other family and friends.

Endless dedication was given to her by Barbara Hoskins Rader and her husband, and Leola Hall.
