Survirtia “Vivian” Banks was born on May 10, 1948 to Pearlene Banks in Helena, Arkansas. God saw fit to give her rest on March 25, 2026 at 9:35 a.m. at Helena Regional Medical Center in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas.
She confessed her hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age under the leadership of Reverend W.L. Reynolds at Beautiful Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life she changed her membership to New Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri under the leadership of Pastor Billy McMullen where she remained a faithful member until God called her home. When she could not be at her home church she would attend Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Lexa, Arkansas.
Vivian graduated from Eliza Miller High School in West Helena, Arkansas in 1968. She earned her degree in cosmetology from Phillip’s County Cosmetology School, which led her to own Survirtia’s Unisex Hair Salon where her specialties were Jerry Curls and Sharp Cuts. She later became a Para-Professional in the Helena-West Helena School District for 10 years until her health failed. After retiring, Vivian continued to work in the community on the general elections, volunteering with different outreach programs and festivals.
Vivian enjoyed spending her time fishing, gardening, sewing, doing arts and crafts, cooking up meals no one else had the recipe to, and dancing to the rhythm of her own beat. She will be remembered for giving all of her nieces and nephews their first switch whooping.
She is preceded in death by her mother; Pearlene Banks. She leaves to cherish her one brother; Rickey Banks of Ypsilanti MI, four sisters; Dorothy Warren of Atlanta GA, Carol Williams of Detroit MI, Connie Banks-Smith of Helena-West Helena AR, Tammy (Billy) McMullen of Black Jack MO, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews and countless relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
