Visitation will be held Friday, February 27, 2026 at Jackson - Highley Funeral Home, 126 Panama Road, West Helena Arkansas from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Phillips, Lee, Monroe, and Desha District Center, Helena Crossing, Helena Arkansas. Interment will follow immediately at First Baptist Cemetery, Elaine Arkansas. Mr. Gathings service may be viewed live through ZOOM.

Bruce Jerome Gathings was born April 29, 1968 to the late Douglas and Katherine Gathings, Jr. He transitioned form this earthly life receiving his heavenly reward February 14, 2026 at Helena Regional Medical Center, Helena Arkansas.
Bruce accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend F.A. Simpson at Zion Traveler Missionary Baptist Church, Mellwood Arkansas.
Affectionately known as “Newly,” Bruce received his formal education within the Elaine School District, Elaine Arkansas. He was a person who cared about people no matter what. One might say he never met a stranger always willing to lend a hand when needed. He especially loved his family, always assisting with family gatherings. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and cooking. He earned the title of “Grill Master” for his grilling skills. He was a hard worker, loving husband, father, brother, and friend who will truly be missed.
Bruce was united in Holy Matrimony to LaTangela Gibson April 29, 2023. To this union no children were born but a family of four was blended. His two daughters; Bruchee’ and Dashira and two bonus sons; JoMarcus and DeAndre’.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents; Douglas and Katherine Gathings, Jr. and a brother; Norman Gathings.
Bruce leaves to cherish his memory his wife; LaTangela Gathings of West Helena AR, two daughters; Bruchee’ Gathings of Little Rock AR, Dashira Gathings of West Helena AR, two bonus sons; JoMarcus Redmon of West Helena AR, DeAndre’ (Claudia) Gibson of Gulfport MS, siblings; Charles Gathings, Violet Gathings both of Mellwood AR, Arlanda Gathings, Audrey Gathings, Tyrone Gathings all of Elaine AR, Tonya Gathings of Jonesboro AR, Larsena Gathings of Marktree AR, Brenda Gathings, Linda Gathings both of Milwaukee WI, father-in-law; Reverend George Andrew (Katherine) Gibson of West Helena AR, mother-in-law; Kathleen (Lorenzo) Jones of Helena AR, siblings-in-law; Anglia (Bennie) Howse of Little Rock AR, Raquel (Brian) McFarland of Valley Spring CA, Gabriel Gibson of Stafford VA, George (Ronnie) Gibson, Jr. of Los Angeles CA, Timothy Gibson of Vallejo CA, grandchildren; Keh’lani Vega – Gibson, Alaya Gibson, Draya Gibson, close friends; Freddie Clash, James Trice, and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
