Visitation will be held Friday, February 13, 2026 at Jackson - Highley Funeral Home, 126 Panama Road, West Helena Arkansas from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips, Lee, Monroe, and Desha District Center, Helena Crossing, Helena Arkansas. Interment will follow immediately at Salem Cemetery, Lakeview Arkansas.
Dwight Spencer Swanigan, Sr. was born February 16, 1953 in Elaine, Arkansas to the late Gaspin and Addie Bernice Swanigan. He was the oldest of four children. His late maternal grandparents helped care for him during his early years.
Dwight attended Lakeview High School, where he played basketball, sang in the choir, was an honor student, and was a member of the Future Farmers of America. After high school, he was united in marriage to Linda Davis. Three children were born to this union.
Dwight later moved to Chicago, where he worked for several years. He returned to his home in Lakeview and worked different jobs. He spent many years as a Mid-Delta bus driver before retiring.
Dwight had a gentle, quiet spirit, a witty sense of humor, deep faith in Jesus Christ, and a belief in treating everyone right. Dwight was a caregiver for several of his loved ones. He lovingly helped his maternal grandparents, his mother, his life partner; Patricia Rose, and his bonus daughter; Tia.
On Wednesday morning, January 28, 2026, he departed this life at Baptist Memorial – East Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents; Spencer and Mattie Johnson, paternal grandparents; Lucrecy and Julius Swanigan, his life partner of thirty-three years; Patricia Rose, three grandchildren; Danielle Hood, Shamarkis Braggs, Fredricka Braggs, and all of his paternal aunts and uncles.
Dwight was loved by many and is survived by his son; Dwight, Jr. of North Little Rock AR, his daughters; Cammeal Swanigan of Memphis TN, Toney Braggs of North Little Rock AR, his bonus daughter; Khatia “Tia” Rose of Lakeview AR, his brothers; Jeffery (Elsie) Swanigan of Marianna AR, Victor (Mary Ann) Swanigan of Marshall MO, Timothy (Mamie) Swanigan of Lakeview AR, his aunt; Spencer Ann Mansfield of Helena AR, twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
