Our beloved Matriarch, Charlotte Mae “T” Holloway McKinney Roberson was born to the union of the late Reverend Dupree Holloway, Sr. and Mrs. Charlotte Easter Holloway on May 13, 1929 in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas. She was the miracle baby after numerous miscarriages. The LORD blessed Mrs. Holloway with an additional seven sons. Charlotte confessed JESUS as her LORD and Savior at an early age at St. Matthew African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church where her loving father served as pastor for many years. The church was cofounded by her grandmother, Mrs. Rose Dortch Holloway. Charlotte served the church well as Sunday School Superintendent from 1992 until the churches merged. She loved Sunday School. Her home church, St. Matthew AME Church merged with Allen Temple AME Church several years ago but she remained faithful until her health declined. Charlotte completed her formal education in the Helena-West Helena Public Schools and later attended Lemoyne Owens College in Memphis, Tennessee.
Charlotte was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Willie McKinney, Sr. in 1947. To this union were born six children. She was blessed to have many more Godchildren both near and far. Her husband, Willie McKinney, Sr. preceded her in death in 1976. She later united in holy matrimony to Deacon Van Bill Roberson in 1982. She was preceded in death by her second husband; Daddy Van, three sons; Bufford, Willie, Jr., Horace Jerome McKinney, six brothers; Dupree, Jr. (Thelma), Robert Earl (Lee Birdia), Willie (Dorothy), Walter, Charles, David Lee, one son-in-love; Lonnie Harvey, one grandson; Randy, one great granddaughter; Sabrina, and one great grandson; Byran.
Charlotte retired as an educator from Phillips County Development Center after more than 40 years of employment. She served as a Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was a volunteer at Helena Regional Medical Center for 30 years. She served as a local board member for AARP and as Captain of her Election’s Ward. She was an organizer of the Oak Grove Garden Club for many years.
At the age of 96, Charlotte had the peaceful “death of the righteous” on November 3, 2025. She enjoyed her final day with a Sunday School Lesson, Communion, and her loving family at her bedside. She told them that she “wanted to go home”. Almighty GOD, in His Divine Wisdom and Mercy answered her prayer. Mama leaves to cherish her daughter; Evelyn Harvey, two sons; Roosevelt (Sue) McKinney, Curtis McKinney, one brother; Eugene Holloway, three sisters-in-love; Helen Holloway, Josie Holloway, Reola Holloway, seven grandchildren; Cassandra (Sidney), Katrina (Phil), Tondra, Latoya (Chris), Brenda, Brian, Lonnie, Jr., Kara, Rhonda, Kendra (Willie), eighteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
