Visitation will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Jackson - Highley Funeral Home Chapel, West Helena AR from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will follow immediately at 11:00 at Jackson - Highley Funeral Home Chapel, West Helena AR. Interment will be held at Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexa AR.
Cleveland Ashwood was born July 1, 1935 in Lake Village, AR. to Nathan Ashwood Sr. and Angeline Ashwood. Cleveland, age 83, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Siblings proceeded him in death were Earlene Payne, Bernice Jenkins, Ernest Ashwood, Nathan Ashwood Jr., Mildred Arnett, and Tommy Bowman.
Cleveland graduated from Eliza Miller High School in the class of 1954. After high school, he joined the United Stated Air Force where he served over 25 years. While in the military, he traveled to many places in the United States and around the world. He served two tour duties in Vietnam. He also served in Turkey and Japan. After serving his country, Cleveland decided to retire in California. He loved watching his favorite team in the San Francisco area on television: Giants, 49ers, and the Golden State Warriors.
Cleveland was a faithful member of Wright Chapel Methodist Church of Oakland, California. He also served as a trustee of the church. Cleveland had special friends in California: Michael, Freelo, and Ms. Charlotte.
In 2014, Cleveland moved from Daly City, California to Little Rock, Arkansas after an extended illness. Cleveland was devoted to his family and friends. He will greatly be missed.
Cleveland leaves behind his daughter, Melissa Wyatt (Russell); three wonderful grandchildren: Ashley, Russell Jr. (Latrice), Alonzo; four great grandchildren: Montajah, Naomi, Leah, and Ashton; sister-in-laws: Carolyn Ashwood, Doris Ashwood; brother-in-law (Herman Payne); cousins from Louisiana: James, Betty, Katherine, and Dorthy. Cleveland leaves behind thirteen nieces and two nephews who loved him dearly.
Special thanks to our Little Rock family, Rickey, Brenda, Angela, Rickey Jr., Sandra, and Josilyn who played a special part in his care during the last four years. Your love, patience, and kindness will never be forgotten. The entire family will cherish our many, many memories of our Uncle Cleveland.
