Visitation will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Phillips, Lee, Monroe, and Desha District Center, Helena Crossing, Helena Arkansas from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service will promptly begin at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips, Lee, Monroe, and Desha District Center, Helena Crossing, Helena Arkansas. Interment will follow immediately at Gill Cemetery, Marvell Arkansas.
Mrs. Verna Gill Wright the daughter of the late Eldridge and Bessie Gill. She was born May 13, 1936 in Marvell, Arkansas.
Mrs. Wright gave her life to Christ at an early age at Midway Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined Tuckers Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher, on the finance committee, program committee, and the culinary team.
Mrs. Wright was a homemaker and book keeper for Wright’s Farm but she found time to work in the Marvell School District as a substitute teacher and worked the voting polls.
Verna married Edgar Wright, Sr. on February 3, 1955. They were married sixty-six years. To this union seven children were born and a family was blended.
Mrs. Wright made her transition on August 14, 2025 at 1:45 p.m. at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Desoto, Southaven, Mississippi surrounded by her loving family.
Preceding her death were parents; Eldridge and Bessie Gill, one daughter; Gwendolyn Wright Settles, one son; Edgar Wright, Jr., one grandson; JaTerrance Wright, and one great grandson; Ja’Mon Morant.
She leaves to cherish her life a daughter; Diane Gray of Marvell AR, sons; Thomas (Willene) Wright, Sr., Bobby (Annie Mae) Wright both of Marvell AR, Deverso Wright of Maumelle AR, Ray Wright of Conway AR, bonus daughter; Stella (Dave) Caffey of Moro AR, four sisters; Elsie Jean Vaughn, Jearlean Cockrell both of Chicago IL, James Ora (Ulicious) Reed, Lucille Washington both of Marvell AR, a brother; Melvin (Adrienne) Gill of Charlotte NC, two sisters-in-law; Linda (Jo) Wilborn of Cincinnati OH, Ida Gill of Chicago IL, three brothers-in-law; Larry (Jean) Wright, D.L. Wright both of Chicago IL, Maurice (Ester) Wright of Horn Lake MS, grandchildren; Keith (Amy) Gray of Conway AR, Tyran Rice of Dallas TX, Thomas (Lakiki) Wright, Jr. of Marvell AR, Tiffany (Reggie) George of Dallas TX, Chara Wright of Maumelle AR, Danielle (Larry) Wright of Helena – West Helena AR, Reginald (Aleshia) Williams of Jonesboro AR, seventeen great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
