Life’s Journey: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
2 Timothy 4:7-8

Vera Mae Walker was a cherished figure in West Helena, Arkansas, known for her vibrant spirit and generous heart. Born on April 6, 1945, she was the first child of Mamie D. Thomas and Rev. George Tyler. She was the eldest family member of the late Anna Beaton Clarke now she passes the torch to Lavern Scott. Her life was marked by a deep commitment to her faith, having embraced Christianity at a young age.

Her life was rich with diverse experiences, from being a cheerleader for the Eliza Miller High School Buccaneers to a dedicated member of the Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she served as a Board of Trustee and Choir Director. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star (OES). After retiring from Hoffinger Industries, Inc. (Doughboy), as a customer service representative, she continued to care for her loved ones, including caregiving for her mother. “Mrs. Vera Mae” as she was best known, was a cornerstone of her community, offering warmth and hospitality as a foster mom and to the neighborhood (New Edition) children. Her legacy of love, shelter and laughter will not be forgotten. Vera Mae Walker found joy in simple pleasures such as spending time with family, relaxing in her sunroom with a hot cup of coffee listening to gospel music or watching old movies and sitcoms, especially westerns. She enjoyed traveling and flying the friendly skies, particularly her fondness for the lively atmosphere of Las Vegas, Nevada. It was something about those bright, colorful lights and bells ringing that made her smile and happy.
