Visitation will be held Friday, November 18, 2022 at Jackson - Highley Funeral Home, West Helena Arkansas from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at P.L.M. & D. District Center, Helena Crossing, Helena Arkansas. Interment will follow immediately at Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexa Arkansas. We will follow CDC guidelines: mask, hand sanitizer, and the social distance standard of 6ft apart.
Mattie A. Towns was born February 13, 1946 to the late Columbus Towns and Pearline Milton in Barton, Arkansas. She was raised by her beloved uncle and aunt J.H. and Lucille Milton Hammond.
Mattie accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Oneida Arkansas. She remained steadfast on her Christian journey and was a faithful member under the leadership of Pastor Thomas Davis until her health decline.
Mattie received her formal education within the Elaine Public School District. She was a proud graduate of Elaine High School, Elaine Arkansas class of 1964. She continued her education at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, formerly known as A.M and N. College, Pine Bluff Arkansas where she earned a bachelor’s degree in social work. She retired from the Arkansas Department of Human Service after serving twenty-five years as a Social Work Counselor.
As independent as she was, Mattie found an affectionate home with her beloved nephew/niece; Ricky and Shonna. She was called to her eternal home to be with the Lord November 9, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.
Mattie is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brothers, and a sister.
Mattie leaves to cherish her precious memories to her nephew/niece; Ricky (Shonna Jackson) Womack, Sr., siblings; Louis Towns, Bertha Whiteside, special lifelong friends; Sarah Lovelace, Mary Mitchell, Betty Cornelius, and a host of nephew, nieces, cousins, and friends.
