There will not be a visitation. Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Lucilia Wood Elementary School, Elaine Arkansas at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow immediately at First Baptist Church Cemetery, Elaine Arkansas. Norman Demetrius Gathings was born February 24, 1965 to the late Douglas and Katherine Gathings, Jr. He departed this earthly life May 4, 2022 at his home.
Norman accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend F.A. Simpson at Zion Traveler Missionary Baptist Church, Mellwood Arkansas.
Affectionately known as “Pete,” Norman attended Elaine High School, Elaine Arkansas where he graduated with the Class of 1983. He was a person who loved people no matter what. He was a smart and intelligent young man who often volunteered his time doing farm work, washing cars, or anything he felt would help someone. These acts were his way of showing love.
Norman leaves to cherish his memory a son; Marcus Gathings, a daughter; Aubrey Gathings, two grandchildren; Marcus D. McCraney, Kyra T. Willis, siblings; Charles Gathings, Violet Gathings both of Mellwood AR, Arlanda Gathings, Audrey Gathings, Tyrone Gathings all of Elaine AR, Bruce Gathings of West Helena AR, Tonya Gathings of Jonesboro AR, Larsena Gathings of Marktree AR, Brenda Gathings, Linda Gathings both of Milwaukee WI, best friend; Undra Love, close friend; Harvey Phillips and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
