Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at New Light Missionary Baptist Church, Helena AR at 2 p.m. Visitation for friends and family will be Friday, February 23, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at New Light Missionary Baptist Church, Helena AR. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Barton AR.

Tommy L. Hunt was born July 3, 1949 to J.L. Hunt and Bobbie Jean Wilborn Hunt. He departed this life on February 13, 2018.

He began his Christian journey at a young age at Star of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Poplar Grove, Arkansas, where he was baptized. He served as Deacon and Church Clerk. He united with New Light Missionary Baptist Church in 1992 where he remained until his death. He served as a Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, Mentor to the Youth, Sound Technician, a member of the New Light Male Chorus, and an all-around “whatever you needed him to do person.” He was faithful and committed to whatever task he was asked to do.

Tommy L. Hunt served his country in the United States Army in Berlin, Germany from 1969 to 1971. He served his community as a Funeral Director with Jackson & Highley Funeral Home, Phillips County Deputy Coroner, City Councilman for the City of West Helena and the consolidated City of Helena-West Helena, Cub Scout Leader, Mentor for several young men of New Light Baptist Church as well as his neighborhood.

He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for over 33 years and H & M Lumber Company since 2012. He also had a lawn service.

He met Martha Ann Johnson in January of 1973 and they became husband and wife December 29, 1973.  God blessed them with three children; Tommy, Jr., Connie  Michelle, and Brian.  They became proud grandparents of Amber, Antonio and Ethan.

He was preceded in death by his parents: J. L. and Bobbie Jean Wilborn Hunt; his grandparents: Steve and Emma Wilborn and Joe and Mattie Hunt; and two brothers: James Hunt and Henry Hunt.

He touched many lives along the way. He leaves to cherish his memories – a devoted and loving wife of 44 years, Martha Hunt; two sons: Tommy Hunt Jr. of Manassas, VA and Brian Hunt of Indianapolis, IN; one daughter: Connie Michelle (Shaunicy) Greer of Indianapolis, IN and three grandchildren: Amber Hunt, Antonio Hunt and Ethan Greer; three brothers: Harry (Velma) Hunt, Dennis (Sandra) Griffin and A.C. (Mary) Banks all of Milwaukee, WI; three sisters: Nancy (Roosevelt) Williams and Emma Johnson both of Milwaukee, WI and Bessie Hunt of West Helena, AR, one brother-in-law: Terry (Denotra) Johnson; two sisters-in-law: Eula Staples and Ever Jean (Calvin) Frazier all of Chicago,IL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
